Take Action: Medicare Coverage for Chiropractic Patients

The Chiropractic Medicare Coverage Modernization Act, (H.R. 1610 / S. 799) would allow Medicare beneficiaries to access chiropractic’s broad-based, non-drug approach to pain management, which has become an important strategy in national efforts to stem the epidemic of prescription opioid overuse and abuse.

POSTURE

Good posture is essential for good health. We recognize poor posture when we see it, formed as a result of bad habits carried out over years, but few people have a grasp of the importance of maintaining good posture.

BACK PAIN

Back pain is a fact of life for many people. Research shows that up to 80% of the population will experience back pain at some point during their lives. It is one of the most common reasons for visits to the doctor’s office.

HEADACHES

If you have a headache, you’re not alone. Nine out of 10 Americans suffer from headaches. Some are occasional, some frequent, some are dull and throbbing, and some cause debilitating
pain and nausea.

Lower Chance of Adverse Drug Effects

A study of Medicare recipients receiving long-term care for chronic low back pain showed adverse drug effects were 42 times higher for patients who initially chose Opioid Analgesic Therapy (OAT) compared to those who chose Spinal Manipulative Therapy (SMT).

Chiropractic Reduces Likelihood of Surgery

A study found that the likelihood of surgery when a surgeon or MD is the first point of contact is 42.7% versus 1.5% when a doctor of chiropractic is the first point of contact.

Chiropractors Treat Pain with Non-drug Approaches
